Kuala Lumpur, 13 October 2026 – The Selangor Climate Adaptation Centre (SCAC), led by its Executive Director, Mr Daniel Lee, took part in EU-Malaysia Business Day 2026: Selangor in Focus at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event was convened by the Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia, Invest Selangor Berhad and EUROCHAM Malaysia under the EU’s Global Gateway.

Selangor as an Anchor for European Investment
In his address, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor, set out why Selangor remains a premier anchor for European investment in Southeast Asia:
- Strong EU footprint: RM22.1 billion in approved investments from 16 EU countries across 308 projects (2021–2025), creating 12,653 jobs.
- Economic and trade powerhouse: 26.5% of national GDP and RM655.4 billion in total trade in 2025, with FDI rising from RM3.3 billion in 2021 to RM35 billion.
- High-tech depth: 60% of Malaysia’s aerospace sector, including Dassault Aviation’s Asia MRO Centre of Excellence, and RM18.2 billion in E&E investment over five years, with NXP continuing to grow in Petaling Jaya.
- Pro-business facilitation: Invest Selangor as a single point of contact, backed by the Selangor Soft Landing Programme, the Selangor Rail Council and SPEED Selangor’s 30-day cap on approvals for eligible development plans.
- The road to RM600 billion: the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2) sets out 98 initiatives across six missions, including the economy, sustainability and people-centric governance, to make Selangor a model state in ASEAN.

Green Transition: Turning Decarbonisation into Competitive Advantage
Mr Daniel Lee also joined the Green Transition panel, moderated by Ms Kati Ferry, Chief Executive Officer of EUROCHAM Malaysia. He shared the stage with:
- Mr Burhanudin Noordin Ali, Airbus Chief Representative for Malaysia
- Mr Sebastien Goethals, Senior Expert, EU Technical Assistance Facility to the Green Team Europe Initiative (TAF-GTEI)
- Mr Marc Appelt, Managing Director, MAN Truck & Bus Malaysia
- Mr Cliff Siaw, Chief Executive Officer, Progressture Solar
The session examined how a lower-carbon pathway can become a commercial advantage for companies in Selangor and for the European businesses working with them, drawing on perspectives from aviation, heavy transport, solar energy and climate adaptation.

Mr Lee highlighted that decarbonisation and climate resilience go hand in hand, and that real progress comes from government, industry and international partners working together. He encouraged industry to look beyond short-term returns on investment and recognise the lasting value of early climate action.
Investors now look beyond emissions targets. They want to know whether the places they invest in can withstand floods, extreme heat and supply-chain disruption. A low-carbon economy that is not climate-resilient is not investment-ready, and this is where Selangor can lead.
Moving Forward
As global supply chains are redrawn, trusted partnerships matter more than ever. SCAC is committed to strengthening Selangor’s climate resilience as part of the State’s investment proposition, and looks forward to working with European partners to turn these dialogues into climate-resilient growth across Selangor.
SCAC thanks Ms Kati Ferry and EUROCHAM Malaysia, the fellow panellists, the Delegation of the European Union to Malaysia and Invest Selangor Berhad for the platform.
