Water Security in a Changing Climate

As part of Air Selangor’s ongoing stakeholder engagement, the session brought together civil society organisations and NGOs to exchange perspectives on water security, sustainability and Air Selangor’s initiatives to strengthen climate resilience, particularly in addressing climate challenges such as El Niño. A site visit also offered first-hand insights into dam management and Air Selangor’s efforts to safeguard Selangor’s water supply.

Key Takeaways

  • Catchment protection is the first line of defence. Safeguarding upstream forests and rivers is essential to secure raw water supply.
  • Climate variability is a direct risk to water supply. Prolonged dry spells and extreme rainfall affect reservoir levels, water quality and treatment operations.
  • Water security is a shared responsibility. Utilities, regulators, NGOs and communities must work together on conservation, pollution prevention and public awareness.

Continued collaboration and meaningful engagement among utilities, civil society and communities are essential to strengthening Selangor’s resilience to climate-related water challenges. SCAC remains committed to supporting collective efforts towards a more climate-resilient and sustainable Selangor.

SCAC extends its sincere appreciation to Air Selangor for the invitation and warm hospitality, and special thanks to Mr Jeremiah Sagayam and the Customer Experience team for the excellent coordination of the visit.
